3D Printed Parts (PLA Guide)

Our 1K UPVC & DTM paint (Gravihel 301) is suitable for 3D printed parts in PLA, PETG, ABS and Nylon. See all 3D print paints

Step-by-Step Application Guide for PLA

To successfully coat your PLA parts with Gravihel 301 without degrading the plastic, follow these steps:

  1. Abrade the surface: Lightly sand the PLA print with P220 to P280 grit sandpaper. This removes layer lines and creates a mechanical "key" for the vinyl-acrylic resin to bite into.
  2. Degrease carefully: Use a dedicated plastic cleaner or a mild anti-silicone cleaner. Avoid pure acetone, as it will dissolve the PLA.
  3. Apply light "mist" coats: When spraying the thinned topcoat, do not spray heavy, wet coats immediately. Apply 2–3 very light mist coats first, allowing 5–10 minutes of flash-off time between them. This allows the aggressive solvents to evaporate quickly before they can soften the PLA structure underneath.
  4. Final cure: Let it cure thoroughly. Gravihel 301 dries to touch in about 20 minutes and is dry to assemble in 90 minutes at room temperature.
